  1. Several notes on this article:

- If you take a pillow, there could be several instances where it could come in handy, especially on tour. It can make a variety of situations much more comfortable.

- I wouldn't categorize India as a third-world country. More a starkly contrasting mesh of people living in either the first world or the third. The line between "haves" and "have-nots" is thicker than it is in America, or a lot of other countries in the world. There's a high diversity of standard of livings in India.

- India is a GREAT place to be vegetarian or vegan. About 60 percent of people are veg, but even those who eat meat only do so rarely. The food is natural, nutritious, and generally spicier than American food. You'll probably love the food there, and you might come back hating American veg food.
a- Cheese isn't really used in Indian food, save paneer.

- The number of people living in poverty in India will strike you. http://anindianyear.wordpress.com/2011/06/12/north-tour-kolkata-something-india-shouldnt-have/

- It will be IMPOSSIBLE for you to be merely a spectator at Holi. It was my favorite holiday, and will be wildly awesome if you're with a large group of friends.

- Take just one sweatshirt with you. You'll only need it for 30 days in January and maybe on tour. Get Indian clothes there.

- You're going to have a great time! So don't take tension! (And remind your family not to take tension either.) All the best!

    :)
